 General Motors Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand have officially launched the Chevrolet Cruze to the Thai media in a recent media event. Built on the vision ‘Engineered to Respond’, the Cruze is designed to address today’s driving requirements with three choices of powertrain plus other optional features.
Mr. Martin Apfel, President of GM Thailand / South East Asia and Chevrolet Sales Thailand, said: “Today’s introduction of the Cruze is a step forward for Chevrolet in Thailand. The Cruze is built on the concept of Global Compact Car – where a common platform is adapted to meet the differing needs of global consumers. The Cruze is a real driver’s car with excellent responsiveness, everything that car lovers will take delight in – dynamic, safety and value for money. The Chevrolet Cruze is currently available in more than 75 countries across five continents and has received numerous recognitions and awards. Globally, a total of more than 350,000 units of Cruze have been sold.
The Chevrolet Cruze stands out from the crowd with its revolutionary design and build quality. Its signature two-tiered grille is larger and perfectly complements its bold headlamp housings. A distinctive concave shoulder line flows uninterrupted from the headlamps to the rear lights, punctuated by chromed door handles. With a wheelbase of 2,685mm, the Cruze measures 4,600mm x 1,790mm x 1,475mm – comparatively larger than competing models.
Inside, the Cruze’s ‘dual cockpit’ theme takes precedence. It also features Chevrolet’s new global design language inspired by the Chevrolet Corvette which brings driver and passenger closer to a ’shared’ driving experience. The well-balanced layout and the design of the center console in the Cruze is neat and futuristic, with a two-tone finish of black and brick (only in 1.8 & 2.0 LTZ) in addition to neat touches of brushed aluminum mixed with leather upholstered door panels. The clear-view display dashboard brings to the Cruze a distinct sense of quality. |

Advanced technologies and amenities abound in the Cruze including quick start button, remote keyless entry system, steering-mounted cruise and audio controls and more. For enhanced audio performance and connectivity, the console supports almost all auxiliary, USB and Bluetooth devices. The Cruze also features windshield wipers with automatic control, auto headlamp function and navigating light system.
The top-of-the-range Cruze is powered by an electronically-controlled 2.0 liter, 4-cylinder, 16-valve turbocharged diesel engine with VCDi to improve fuel injection efficiency, consequently increasing power output while lowering carbon emissions. The engine is rated to deliver 150hp and a class-leading 320 Nm of torque.
Next in line is the 1.8 liter, 4-cylinder, DOHC 16-valve benzene engine featuring Double Continuous Variable Cam Phasing (Double CVC) to improve intake and exhaust efficiency over the whole rpm range. Power for this unit is rated at 141 hp – the highest in its class – with 177 Nm of torque.
The Cruze also comes with a 1.6 liter, 4-cylinder, DOHC 16-valve engine which incorporates Variable Geometry Intake System (VGIS). The VGIS provides smooth power delivery and torque across all engine speeds. The energy efficient and environmentally friendly engine delivers 109hp and 150 Nm of torque. |

Transmitting the Cruze’s power to the front wheels is Chevrolet’s innovative six-speed automatic transmission works with Driver Shift Control (DSC) that is matched to the latest electronic control module designed to meet all driving requirements – smooth ride at low speeds with exhilarating acceleration when the accelerator is floored. The intelligent six-speed application also helps control the engine speed to maximize fuel consumption and emissions control. Manual transmission fans will be happy that the 1.6 and 1.8 models are also available with five-speed manual drive trains.
For a smoother ride, the front suspension uses McPherson strut, gas-filled shock absorbers and coil springs with torsion bar, while the rear incorporates torsion beam and gas-filled shock absorber for better handling and lower maintenance costs. The 4-wheel disc brake (ventilated in front) helps enhance braking efficiency and in tandem with the Cruze’s ABS and traction control system, accords more control to the driver. Polished 17-inch aluminum wheels with 225/50 R17 tires help transfer the diesel powertrain’s might to the road. The 1.8 and 1.6 models use 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/60 R16 tires. |

The Chevrolet Cruze isn’t just about looks and go. It also comes with a myriad of active and passive safety features including front and side airbags, ABS (anti-Lock Brakings System) and EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution), traction control and safety key immobilizer. Passive safety comes in the form of steel panels and side beams designed to resist high impacts.
The Chevrolet Cruze will set a new class benchmark for maintenance with 15,000km service intervals. |

Intelligent Technologies
GMLAN (Electrical Architecture) - Respond quickly to current driving conditions with fast and effective communication within the control unit. The system performs like a computer network at the rate of 50 times faster (500kpbs from 10kpbs) than conventional ECUs, increasing the precision of the car’s electronic controls such as ABS, ESP, lighting systems, wipers and engine components.
PEPS (Passive Entry Passive Start) - This innovative power lock and remote keyless entry system provides greater convenience without the need to hold the key. Integrated within the system is a sensor embedded on external door handles, gear console and rear bumper to calculate response to the opening of the door and rear deck.
Auto Headlamps / Auto Rain Sensor - The Auto Headlamp system enables the headlamps to respond automatically to external light intensity, while the Auto Rain Sensor automatically starts and adjusts wiper speed according to the intensity of water on the windshield. The headlights also feature a ‘follow-me-home’ function – basically the headlamps remain on even when the engine is switched off – this is a particularly useful feature especially in low-light and dark conditions.
Graphic Information Center -
A large graphic display on the center console can be customized according to languages and provides control of internal and external lighting, changing door lock option for safety (four, two or one auto door lock can be set), adjusting alarms, controlling air-conditioners and tuning the audio device.
NVH (Noise - Vibration - Harshness) - For greater comfort, NVH (Noise/Vibration/Harshness) has been further reduced by using hydraulic mechanisms to reduce noise caused by engine start-up, immediate acceleration or hard braking. Further reductions of NVH come in the form of triple seals at the doors and “tight gap tolerance” of not more than 3mm of all body panels. The roof’s interior features a five-layer treatment – three of polyethylene and two of polyurethane – that is acoustically designed to further help isolate the passenger compartment. |
